Rain delays start to fourth ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part 1 ? November 10, 2012
Rain delayed the start of the fourth ODI between Sri Lanka and New Zealand after the home side skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The Lankans made one change to their lineup, resting Tillakaratne Dilshan after the opener sustained a back injury in the previous game. His place was taken by Dinesh Chandimal.
The Kiwi side also tinkered with their lineup, handing a debut to Adam Milne, who replaced Kyle Mills. All-rounder Andrew Ellis also returned to the side in place of Jacob Oram. The weather has been a real nuisance in the series so far, with both completed matches decided on Duck-worth Lewis method.
Persistent rain on second day of the opening Test ensured that no play was possible between Australia and South Africa at the Gabba.
Standing umpires Asad Rauf and Billy Bowden made an official announcement to call off the play at 4pm local time. The tourists will now resume the third day on 255 for 2.
Earlier, Graeme Smith had won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite falling early, his batting lineup showcased their prowess with sound contributions, with Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis all posting half-centuries. The visitors suffered a freak blow nonetheless, after it was revealed that JP Duminy has been ruled out for six months following an Achilles injury which he picked during training.
Bangladesh?s opener, Tamim Iqbal, has attributed his team?s poor showings in the longer version to lack of regular appearances in the format. ?
The home side are currently preparing for their first Test of the current year, where they will take on West Indies in the two-match Test series. They last played a five-day game in December 2011. Since achieving Test status, the Bengali Tigers have managed just three wins in 73 outings.
"Our situation isn't good, we play Tests after long gaps," Tamim told ESPNcricinfo. "We should have this mentality of adapting ourselves from one format to the other. If we had played regular Test cricket, this question about adjusting wouldn't have come up." ?
